The Boston Red Sox rallied behind a career-best start from Brayan Bello to even the series against the Toronto Blue Jays in a 3-0 victory. Jarren Duran and the offense manufactured a first-inning run and never relinquished their lead. What are the main takeaways from Boston’s game four win over Toronto? Brayan Bello hurled the best start of his career Brayan Bello’s rough 2024 season had been in the process of being turned around in a big way before he gave up five earned runs in his last start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tonight, he got back to his successful ways again and was lights out against Toronto. Bello recorded an out in the eighth inning for the first time in his MLB career and one-upped himself by finishing the inning altogether. His final line ends up at 8 innings, two hits allowed, no runs, and nine strikeouts. From top to bottom his best outing as a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Tyler O’Neill had the biggest moment of the night
With Boston ahead just 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth, slumping outfielder Tyler O’Neill came up with the biggest swing of the game. Following a leadoff bunt single by David Hamilton, O’Neill deposited a ball into the monster seats to extend the lead to three. O’Neill’s recent bouts with strikeout issues have caused a partial falling out of favor with parts of the fan base, but his home run tonight certainly massively helped the team.
Kenley Jansen shut the door
Boston closer Kenley Jansen has seen sparse work recently with the team’s plethora of losses, but he once again proved that he hasn’t lost a step in his extended rest. Jansen sat down all three Blue Jays he faced and even amped up his cutter to 96 MPH to strike out George Springer. Jansen looked as sharp as he has at any point this season and gave Toronto zero chance to formulate any sort of rally after the Red Sox’s big offensive eighth inning. The Red Sox are now 69-64 on the season.
