DALLAS – Now that the CeeDee Lamb vs. Dallas Cowboys saga is over, the next contract dispute is with franchise quarterback Dak Prescott. Both sides have taken public verbal shots at the other.
Prescott recently said that if nothing is done before their Week 1 game, it would “say a lot.”
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk believes that if nothing can get done, one of the Cowboys NFC East rivals would be waiting with open arms and an open checkbook.
“Their feelings about Daniel Jones became obvious during Hard Knocks. And Jones knows it,” Florio says. “And it could become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Jones contract gives the Giants an escape hatch after this season.
“Wouldn’t it be great for the Giants to steal Dak from a division rival? It would be a nice bookend to the Eagles swiping running back Saquon Barkley from the Giants earlier this year.”
This much is true: The Giants know all too well how good Prescott is as he hasn’t lost as a starter against them since 2016.
This much is also true: Florio is offering these thoughts with much more opinion than insight, as evidenced by his odd remark “Wouldn’t it be great?”
There are a lot of caveats to this whole scenario, but if Dak doesn’t have a new deal in hand before the Cowboys kick off their season against the Cleveland Browns on Sept 8, we could be watching his last season wearing the star.
