Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Sunday that Perine will be available for the team’s regular-season opener versus Baltimore on Thursday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
Perine didn’t sign with the Chiefs until this past Wednesday, but that won’t prevent him from being able to play in Kansas City’s first game of the campaign.
The veteran running back may not be fully up to speed on the playbook and thus could be held to limited work, and even when he’s fully familiar with the team’s system it’s not clear how much work he’ll log behind starting running back Isiah Pacheco. In addition to Perine, Kansas City’s backup RBs include Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) and intriguing rookie Carson Steele.
