The San Francisco 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery on Saturday afternoon. He was in serious, but stable condition. On Sunday it was revealed that Pearsall was upgraded to fair condition and then was released from the hospital. The 49ers announced that they will place Pearsall on the reserve/ non-football injury list, which makes him ineligible for the first four games of the season.
Pearsall will be eligible to return to the 49ers’ week five game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, October 6 at 4:05 P.M. ET. We still do not know whether he will be ready health-wise to return to the field at that time.
Pearsall, 23, was selected with the No. 31 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after totaling 965 yards, 65 catches, and six touchdowns at the University of Florida in 2023. He started his collegiate career at Arizona State University but decided to transfer to Florida for his final two seasons. Pearsall was the sixth WR taken in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Although Pearsall was projected to be behind veterans Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and Juan Jennings on the depth chart, he still was expected to have a role in Head Coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
