Dallas Cowboys: Jerry Jones Admits This Is a Make Or Break Year For Coach Mike McCarthy..

The Dallas Cowboys are in a massive season that will determine the future of the organization for years to come. While this has been hinted at at times throughout the offseason, not owner Jerry Jones has let the cat out of the box, that this year will determine the futures for many members of the Cowboys organization. Specifically, head coach Mike McCarthy’s job is on the line this season.

Dallas Cowboys In Make Or Break Year

The Cowboys have yet to extend their head coach McCarthy, and there is a clear reason for that. The team is going to determine, based on how this season goes, many coaches and players’ futures in Dallas.

Coach McCarthy is going into the last year of his contract because he did not get extended. His past four seasons with the Cowboys have not all been bad, on the contrary, the team boasts an incredible regular season record over his tenure and has made the playoffs in three straight seasons. The major issue has been the postseason and specifically, last year’s single playoff game.

The playoff record for McCarthy is why he finds himself in a make-or-break year for the Cowboys, and with a coach like Bill Belichick as a free agent, Jones knows that after this season there may be a need for a comprehensive change. McCarthy has a 1-3 playoff record with Dallas, and the team is coming off the most embarrassing loss in decades in the postseason.

Jerry Jones Says After Green Bay Loss Everyone Needs To Prove Themselves

The Cowboys got embarrassed by one of the youngest teams to ever reach the playoffs the Green Bay Packers in a 48-32 loss.

This loss has made Jones question many things around the organization, and that is apparently why he did not give the head coach an extension even after quite decent success.

Jones has now confirmed on multiple occasions that the loss to the Packers is the reason why the coach does not have an extension, and now he has taken it further saying this year will be pivotal in determining the future for many members of the team.

The loss to the Packers happened, and now it’s about how everyone in the organization responds to that blow. If the team folds because of last season, it will certainly be McCarthy’s final year in Dallas. It’s not certain exactly what Dallas has to do for people to keep their jobs, but it has to be at least an NFC Championship birth:

“I admit this, the Green Bay thing,” Jones said, via Clarence Hill. “When we lost the Green Bay game, we basically had everybody say, ‘Okay, what are you going to do about this? Okay, this wasn’t just a game. What are you going to do about this?’ And so it got the attention of everything we do.”

While it may not be Super Bowl or bust for the Cowboys not to blow up the organization, it may be very close to that this season.
