The Dallas Cowboys have reached an extension with All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to the second-largest non-quarterback contract in NFL history. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, CeeDee Lamb agreed to a four-year, $136 million extension with a $38 million signing bonus and $100 million guaranteed.
This is one of the three players that were sought to get extensions as quarterback Dak Prescott and linebacker Micah Parsons have not agreed to a deal as of this writing. CeeDee Lamb has been named to three Pro Bowl teams and an All-Pro first-team member once in his first four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
Last season, CeeDee Lamb finished with an NFL-leading 135 catches on 192 targets for 1,749 yards (13.0 yards per reception) with 12 receiving touchdowns while running 14 times for 113 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns. This is something that the Dallas Cowboys needed to do as he was not reporting to the team throughout the preseason.
The Cowboys are trying to figure out their future and the $136 million extension shows that they are ready for business ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Where does CeeDee Lamb rank amongst the top wide receivers?
CeeDee Lamb is one of the best wide receivers in the National Football League but to say he is the top player at the position would be a bit of a stretch. The wide receivers in the league are arguably more talented than ever and with the likes of Tyreek Hill, Ja’Marr Chase and Amon-Ra St. Brown to name a few that are on par, if not better than Lamb statistically.
Either way, it does not matter with contract negotiations as he was the next wide receiver up to get paid. This likely sets the benchmark for guys like Chase and Brandon Aiyuk, who are both looking for new contracts in the not-so-distant future.
