Dodgers minors: Jacob Meador, Yeiner Fernandez, Hyun-Seok Jang

Dodgers Prospect Notes: Yeiner Fernandez shines in the AFL, Hyun-Seok Jang wins gold in Asian Games, more – Dodgers Digest
Player of the day

Great Lakes right-hander Jacob Meador took the ball in the sixth inning with a three-run lead and kept it exactly there, pitching scoreless baseball for a four-inning save, his first save as a professional.

Meador struck out five and allowed only one hit, a single, plus three walks.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

Plenty of late runs sent Oklahoma City to a home loss the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Astros).

Hyun-il Choi struck out six in his five innings, and his only run allowed came in his final frame. Trouble came afterward, with Sugar Land scoring in each of the next four innings off the Oklahoma City bullpen.

Dalton Rushing hit a two-run double in the eighth inning, but Oklahoma City never got closer than within three runs.

Double-A Tulsa

Seven runs in the final three innings spoiled an otherwise fine day for Tulsa in a loss to the San Antonio Missions (Padres).

Orlando Ortiz-Mayr pitched into the seventh inning for the third time this season, and had a 4-1 lead entering his final frame. He got one more out but left with two runners in scoring position, and both scored after he left.

After homering on Tuesday as a second baseman, Yeiner Fernandez hit two doubles and a single as the catcher on Wednesday. Shortstop Noah Miller had three hits, including a double.

Second baseman Jose Izarra laid down a bunt late in this game, which led to this tidbit from Tulsa’s in-house game recap:

Izarra’s sacrifice in the eighth inning was just the fourth sacrifice bunt this season for the Drillers. Of the four full-season teams within the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league system, only High-A Great Lakes has more sacrifices with 11. Oklahoma City has two sacrifice bunts, and Rancho Cucamonga has one.

High-A Great Lakes

A five-run fourth inning provided the lead that Meador later protected in the Loons’ win over the Dayton Dragons (Reds).

Dylan Campbell and Kyle Nevin each had two-run doubles during the fourth inning. Campbell also stole his 42nd base of the season, good for third in the Midwest League.

Great Lakes clinched its fifth straight winning season with Wednesday’s victory.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

Four runs in the fourth inning were enough to sink the Quakes in a loss to the Visalia Rawhide (D-backs). Rancho Cucamonga now has to win the final four games of this series to qualify for the playoffs.

Hyun-Seok Jang struck out three in two innings in likely his final start of the season. The 20-year-old right-handed has pitched 11 scoreless innings in a row over his last four outings, with 16 strikeouts.

Double-A: Corner man Cristian Santana was placed on the 7-day injured list.
