There’s no time for the Dallas Cowboys to celebrate after reaching a lucrative extension with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. The team’s focus is now on reaching a deal with quarterback Dak Prescott, which could prove to be a tricky task before Week 1 kicks off.
As Prescott enters the final year of his contract, he holds a strong position at the negotiating table.
“Make no mistake, he literally has all the leverage,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said on Monday, shortly after Lamb inked his $136 million deal. “The Cowboys would clearly like to get a long-term deal done. If it gets done, he is no doubt going to be the new highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.”
Rapoport laid out two options for Prescott. Both are very enticing for the 31-year-old QB.
“Here are the options. It is either take a deal that resets the quarterback market — something that Dak Prescott is proud of, that his agent is proud of, that the union knows is a great deal. Or just go be the biggest free agent in NFL history,” Rapoport said. “Those are really the options for Dak Prescott.”
