Roman Anthony has been dominant since his promotion to Triple-A Worcester, to say the least. And the Boston Red Sox prospect could reach the top of Baseball America’s Top 100 prospect rankings as early as Tuesday.
The outfielder is No. 2 on BA’s latest rankings, which was updated Sept. 3. Anthony only follows Tampa Bay Rays’ Junior Caminero. With the third baseman in Tampa Bay’s lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, he’s expected to be out of prospect eligibility after his first at-bat.
Once a player exceeds 130 at-bats, they’ll exhaust their prospect eligibility. Caminero has 130 ahead of Tuesday’s first pitch.
That will pave the way for Anthony — who was drafted by the Red Sox in 2022 — to be Baseball America’s No. 1 prospect.
Anthony has been making his presence known in Worcester since his promotion earlier this summer. The 20-year-old made history in his WooSox debut by when he became the youngest Red Sox prospect to play in a Triple-A game in 46 years.
In 23 games for Worcester, Anthony is batting .340 with three home runs, 13 RBI, eight doubles, a .961 OPS and a .543 slugging percentage. He’ll look to continue his strong pace on Tuesday when the WooSox begin their final homestand of the MiLB regular season.
