The Baltimore Ravens signed running back Derrick Henry in the offseason. Henry spent his entire career with the Tennessee Titans before signing with Baltimore.
When Henry signed with the Ravens, everyone felt like it would be a good fit with the team because of quarterback Lamar Jackson. The former Tennessee Titans running back wants to prove all season long that he still has something left in the tank. There is no doubt that he is a future first ballot hall of fame player.
Head Coach John Harbaugh Makes Shocking Statement About Baltimore Ravens Running Back Derrick Henry
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh spoke to the media on Monday. He was talking about the star running back, who rushed for 46 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs last Thursday night. They lost that game 27-20, but Baltimore should be fine moving forward. Harbaugh said, via the team’s official transcript:
“We didn’t bring Derrick in here to be the guy that gets the ball 30 times a game. He’s done that before. That’s really not the plan. The plan is Derrick, Lamar, Mark (Andrews), Isaiah (Likely), Zay (Flowers), Bate (Rashod Bateman) and Nelly (Nelson Agholor). That’s kind of the plan in this offense going forward.”
It feels as if Derrick Henry doesn’t have the mileage to have 30 carries a game anymore. They will need more help from their other running backs moving forward.
Lamar Jackson Led the Team In Rushing In Week 1
It may be understandable for Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh to not want Derrick Henry to get 30 carries a game, but quarterback Lamar Jackson was reckless against the Kansas City Chiefs on the ground. Jackson rushed for 122 yards on 16 carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 7.6 yards per rush.
If he continues to play recklessly, Jackson could get hurt at some point. They are going to need more rushing production outside of Henry and Jackson. Justice Hill might need to get more carries as he only rushed for three yards on one carry. The Ravens face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2 at home. Maybe Baltimore’s offense will operate differently this week.
