Red Sox 1, Yankees 2 F/10: Extra Pain

Boston Red Sox v New York Yankees

Every game means more for the Boston Red Sox, as the season and their playoff hopes dwindle needing to keep the spark of last night’s walk-off win alive against the first place New York Yankees. Would the flames be stoked in the Bronx or snuffed out?

B1: Trouble Early

A leadoff solo shot to Gleyber Torres felt a little ominous. It was really a majority of the offense in general for the Bronx Bombers.

T5: Tie Game

Speaking of bombs, Danny Jansen went bombs away to tie the game up!

T9: Opportunity Squandered

Two on, one out, top of the 9th, a pivotal chance to take the lead, yes? Trevor Story strikes out, Triston Casas flies out. Brutal.

B10: Juan So-two

Juan Soto’s first walk-off as a Yankee. You could see it coming from a mile away.

Studs

The Pitching

Yeah, I got spooked after Gleyber’s leadoff homer. Huge credit to Cooper Criswell to only give up four hits total (despite three walks) and keep getting out of messes unscathed. Justin Slaten, Chris Martin and Kenley Jansen all did their jobs with little to no fuss too.

Duds

The Offense

4 hits, 0-for-11 with RISP, no hits from Duran, Devers or Story. If you’re chasing a playoff spot somehow, this isn’t the way to do it.

Play of the Game

If I’m going to pick something actually good to see, it’s Rafael Devers’ impressive pick, spin and throw to nab Anthony Volpe in the 9th.
