The Baltimore Ravens are nearing completion of their quarterback lineup as the regular NFL season approaches. According to Jeff Zrebiec from The Athletic, the team recently released rookie quarterback Emory Jones. Like all NFL teams, the Ravens must reduce their squad to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
Jones saw limited action during the preseason. He only threw more than one pass in a game against the Atlanta Falcons, where he completed 7 of 9 passes for 100 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown pass to rookie receiver Dayton Wade. However, Jones struggled in his other appearances. During the Ravens’ first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, he was sacked and lost a fumble on the only snap he played, which led to a game-winning field goal by Philadelphia. In the final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, Jones completed just one pass for two yards.
Before joining the NFL as an undrafted free agent, Jones spent six years in college football, playing for Florida, Arizona State, and Cincinnati, where he threw for 7,099 yards and 51 touchdowns across 57 games.
Remaining quarterbacks on the Ravens roster include the veteran Josh Johnson and rookie Devin Leary, alongside star Lamar Jackson. Johnson is set as Jackson’s backup, while Leary’s position seems less secure after a rough preseason, including a performance against Green Bay where he completed 6 of 13 passes for 34 yards and threw two interceptions.
The Ravens also have Malik Cunningham, who switched from quarterback to receiver, and might serve as an emergency quarterback if needed.
