The Miami Dolphins are looking to find much of the success they had in 2023.   Last season they finished 11-6, but ran into the Kansas City Chiefs in a bitter cold wild card playoff game.  The Chiefs went on to eliminate the Dolphins 26-7.

However, there will be one newly acquired veteran who won’t be there for the Dolphins’ revenge tour in 2024.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dolphins are releasing quarterback Mike White.

Skylar Thompson is likely the new backup quarterback for the Miami Dolphins.

Thompson is younger, more athletic, and stronger-armed than White in summer practices and preseason games. It seems he’s earned a roster spot.

“So with Skylar, he got the opportunity to play early in his career,” coach Mike McDaniel said. “I thought as a rookie he demonstrated some aggressiveness and ability to make plays in this league. And then it’s been about, since then, training his craft, really owning the quarterback position within the offense.

And I thought this preseason he’s exhibited growth in what that means. It means you are the leader of the unit that you have to orchestrate, play calls, decision-making, all those things. I thought he took a good step forward tonight.”

It will be interesting to see how Thompson takes over the backup job and how he will perform if he needs to see any playing time during the regular season.
