Running back Chris Brooks quickly found a new team after parting ways with the Miami Dolphins. Just one day after being released with an injury settlement, Brooks was picked up by the Green Bay Packers for their practice squad.
Brooks had hopes of securing a spot on the Dolphins’ active roster this summer, but those plans were thwarted when he was waived due to injury during the final cut to a 53-player roster. He had been in concussion protocol after taking a hit in a preseason game against the Washington Commanders, shortly after making a notable 59-yard run.
Brooks, who joined the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent from BYU in 2023, made an impact with his size and showed promising potential. He was part of the 53-man roster last season and demonstrated his talent with a few significant runs, including a 52-yard dash in a dominant win over the Denver Broncos and a 28-yard run against the Carolina Panthers. However, a leg injury in the game against Carolina sidelined him, placing him on injured reserve. The Dolphins later activated him for a return, and he participated in three more games, although opportunities were limited.
The Dolphins’ decision to draft Jaylen Wright in the fourth round and a strong performance in training camp by veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. added to the challenges for Brooks in making the roster.
In other Dolphins news, edge defender Derrick McLendon was added to the practice squad on Tuesday following tryouts that saw participation from two other young edge defenders, Ty Shelby and Justin Blazek. Shelby had some experience with the L.A. Chargers last season, and Blazek was with the Cincinnati Bengals during their training camp, having joined them as an undrafted free agent from Wisconsin-Platteville.
